Welcome To St John Presbyterian Church

1307 E. Elm St., New Albany, IN 47150

St John Presbyterian Church exists to bring people into the
transforming presence of Jesus Christ through worship,
teaching the Word, Christian nurture, and ministry in and
to the world.  As Christ’s ministers our members are
striving to build a community of God’s love, justice
and mercy, trusting God to lead us into faithfulness.

Spiritual exercise for the week of March 7:

Love your enemies ... When someone gives you a hard time, respond
with the energies of prayer
(Matthew 5:44, The Message).

Don¹t think you have enemies?  One of the "Thoughtful Christians"
handouts says we all have both internal enemies and
external enemies. ³Each of us secretly harbors impulses and
reactions we are ashamed of: jealousy, greed, rage, self-pity,
the need to be right, the desire to win, the exhilaration of
feeing superior [internal enemies].... and people we don¹t
want contact with, don¹t want to think about, and certainly don¹t
want to pray for [external enemies‹such as certain government
figures or terrorists]."

Love our enemies?  Pray for them? When we see ourselves
as among those who sin,
we see ourselves standing under
God¹s judgment with them‹and we can "mplore God¹s mercy
for all of us"
(TC handout).

***

Lord, who could stand? But there is forgiveness with you
(Psalm 130: 3-4).

Prayer for this week
Holy Spirit, help me to see my internal enemy or enemies
of ______, and forgive me. Help me to forgive myself and
those I dislike or hate. Melt the hate in my heart;
transform it into love, your love for all. Amen.

St. John is a praying church.

Through the Undershepherd prayer program every
St. Johnmember or family is prayed for every day.

Special needs are
prayed for through the Prayer Tree
and in worship on Sundays.
